Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Trail, an app that turns receipts and spend data into a clean, searchable record. By creating an account or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

1. The service

Trail is a software product that ingests receipts (images, PDFs, text), extracts structured data using AI, and lets you organise the result into folders with budgets and rules. The service is provided to you on a non-exclusive, revocable, non-transferable basis for your personal or internal business use.

2. Your account

• You must be at least 13 (or the age of digital consent where you live, whichever is higher).
• You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account.
• You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping it up to date.
• You may close your account at any time — see delete account.

3. Acceptable use

While using Trail, you agree not to:

• Use the service for anything illegal, fraudulent, or harmful.
• Upload receipts or content that aren't yours to upload, or that contain other people's personal data without their consent.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the app (except as allowed by law).
• Scrape, crawl, or hit our API at a rate or volume that's clearly abusive.
• Use the service to build a competing product.
• Bypass authentication or access another user's account.

4. Your content

Your receipts, folders, rules, edits, and any other content you put into Trail remain yours. You grant Trail a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, process, transmit, and display your content solely to provide the service to you — including sending it to our AI processors for extraction. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account.

5. AI output

Trail uses third-party AI models to read receipts and produce structured data. Models make mistakes; extracted amounts, merchants, dates, and categorisations should be reviewed before you rely on them for accounting, tax, or any consequential decision. Trail is a memory tool, not a tax adviser.

You're responsible for reviewing the output Trail produces and for any downstream use of it.

6. Fees + billing

Trail is free to start — every new account gets a one-time allotment of scans and AI actions. Continued use beyond that allotment is a paid subscription, offered monthly or annually. There is no free trial on the paid plans.

• Pricing, billing period, and what each plan includes are disclosed in the app before purchase.
• Subscriptions are billed by Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Billing (Android) under their respective terms. Trail never sees or stores raw card numbers.
• Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings (iOS) or Google Play subscriptions (Android).
• We may change subscription pricing or terms from time to time. For an existing subscription, a price increase is not applied until you actively opt in or your subscription auto-renews after a written notice period that complies with Apple's and Google's store rules.
• Unless required by law, paid fees are non-refundable for partial periods. Refund requests for store-billed subscriptions are handled by Apple or Google under their refund policies.
• We do not offer separate web-based subscriptions at this time; all paid plans are billed through the mobile app stores.

7. Termination

• You can leave at any time — close the account from the app or by emailing us; data deletion is described in the privacy policy.
• We may suspend or terminatean account if it's being used in violation of these terms (fraud, abuse, breaching the acceptable-use rules), or if continued operation would expose us or other users to legal risk.
• Sections that should reasonably survive termination — IP, liability, governing law — survive.

8. Warranty disclaimer

Trail is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that AI output will be accurate.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Trail will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim arising from or relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid Trail in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) US $50.

Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits; in those places, the above applies to the extent allowed.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the service changes or to reflect legal requirements. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use Trail after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Trail is operated from, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence still apply where they grant you stronger rights than these terms.
